New CWD Management Requirements
Despite countless efforts to come to the table with TPWD Commissions to find an effective solution that encompasses all stakeholder concerns, TDA is a disappointed that deer breeders are still forced to comply with excessive live testing regulations that place unfair requirements on our industry and put our animals at unnecessary risk.
Previous Rules
Post-mortem samples are due within 14 days
Obex or MRLN sample must be submitted
3-1 live testing make-up on missed mortalities
Minimum Annual Mortality Rate of 3.6%
80% testing of all mortalities 16 months and older
TIT permit program active
No release testing requirements
New Rules
Post-mortem samples are due within 7 days
Obex and MRLN sample must be submitted
5-1 live testing make-up on missed mortalities
Minimum Annual Mortality Rate increases to 5.0%
100% testing of all mortalities 12 months and older
TIT permit program suspended
Ante-mortem testing on ALL animals prior to release
*under 3 year sunset provision
**8 mos from date sample is taken to move animal
Additional, 70% of CWD surveillance must be post-mortem samples and the minimum age for testing for movement to a release site is 6 months.
